1tablespoonfresh lemon juice
0.5cuppure maple syrup
0.5teaspoonground cinnamon
0.25teaspoonground nutmeg
1cuprolled oats
0.5cupall-purpose flour
0.33cuppacked brown sugar
0.25cupunsalted butter, melted
0.25teaspoonsea salt
0.5cupchopped pecans or walnuts (optional for extra crunch)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
In a large mixing bowl, add the thinly sliced apples and drizzle with fresh lemon juice and maple syrup. Sprinkle in cinnamon and nutmeg. Toss until all the apple slices are well-coated in the mixture.
Transfer the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly across the bottom.
In a separate medium-sized bowl, combine rolled oats, all-purpose flour, packed brown sugar, melted unsalted butter, and sea salt. Mix with a fork or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
If you choose to add nuts, gently fold in the chopped pecans or walnuts into the oat mixture for a delightful crunch.
Evenly sprinkle the crumbly oat mixture over the apple layer in the baking dish, ensuring good coverage.
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly and tender.
Once baked, remove the crisp from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving to allow the juices to settle.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of maple syrup for extra sweetness.
